Kevin

Kevin has been busy with activities at school and his first basketball game.  To catch you up on Kevin it begins with a literary ball in January. He dressed as a character from a book. We have been reading the first book in the series of The Chronicles of Narnia as a family. We have a family devotional that goes along with each book. We read a chapter of the book each night and then go over the devotional. It has been a real blessing for our family. Well, Kevin chose Prince Peter for his character for the Literary Ball.

These next pictures show our attempt to turn a school auditorium into a magical ball with a theme of Mad Hatters Tea. There were several moms that put much effort into decorations and food. We had a great time and worked well together to make this special for the children.

Then on Monday we all awaited for Kevin's first basketball game to ever play in. He was so excited and very nervous. It was a treat to get to watch Kevin play. He has wanted to play for a couple of years now. He has been a trooper watching his brothers play and not get to play himself.

Then yesterday was the 101st Day of School. Kevin's class celebrated by dressing up as the 101 dalmations and watched the movie and did various activities to go along with the day. He is my sweet "puppy".

Snow Day - February 4, 2011

We actually got a little snow during the night and today. They called school off yesterday around 5:30pm. So the boys got comfy and watched a movie. Andrew babysat for us (since Kevin had been home sick we didn't want to get him out) and Daniel and I went to the gym. We had not been to the gym in a couple of days and we could really tell a difference. It is amazing how good exercising can make you feel. And the plus to exercising is that I naturally drink my water without thinking about it and then we want to eat better. We have not been dieting but making better choices.

I always listening to KLove (Christian radio station) on my phone while I work out. **My 13 year old taught me how to find my radio station on my phone :) Last night while walking, the songs really spoke to me. I had to hold back from singing to the whole gym. When I was stretching I closed my eyes and worshipped the Lord through music. I was truly blessed at the gym last night.

We came home and had a relaxing night with the boys. We woke up to a Winter Wonderland in Louisiana. It was not the typical white powdery snow. It was very icy snow. But it just started snowing the floating kind here. The boys are enjoying some hot chocolate now and trying to warm up. It is a little whiter out there now since I took the pictures. And we are so redneck around here. Our sledding consisted of four wheelers and dirt bikes pulling children down the street on various items for entertainment. There are not any snowmen because this kind of snow will not make one. Here are a few pictures from our Snow Day!

A little of this and a little of that

Well, I went to the spine specialist on Monday and will start physical therapy next Tuesday. I've known I have scoliosis in my back but never saw an x-ray of exactly how curved it was. Below is an x-ray of my spine. If you look closely you can see it does a little twist where it curves. The doctor said that the twist is actually what makes my spine curve.

Getting back active and exercising is exactly what he said I needed to do. I have to keep my core muscles strengthened and stretched out. I am going to start going to physical therapy twice a week to help with the strengthening of those muscles. I will go back for another x-ray in one year. They want to monitor my back to make sure the curve is not progressing.

I had noticed that when I am on the computer a lot that my back starts to hurt. That is a part of the scoliosis. I have to make sure that I stand periodically so my back does not begin hurting. I am looking forward to physical therapy and the results it brings in minimizing the pain in my back.
 
This week has been pretty laid back with activities. We have been taking it easy and waiting for some snow to come our way. All week snow has been in our forecast and the kids (and parents) have been excited. We had some snow this morning but Andrew and Christopher are at school. Not the best of times for it to snow. It was snowing during the time that Christopher was taking his test for middle school admissions. I hope he was not too distracted!

Kevin is home sick today. And this is Daniel's morning off of work. I have enjoyed having the two of them home. Daniel and Kevin made banana nut bread together.

 And our lab puppy, Gabby, has enjoyed so quality time with Kevin too!

Got an email earlier from our school system saying all after school activities have been cancelled and there will be a decision on schools later this evening. And I just got an email from Christopher's church choir director that choir has been cancelled. Looks like we are having a quiet evening at home tonight :) I love it when we have a break in routine and get to spend some time at home. I am now off to pick Andrew and Christopher up from school and come back HOME! Most of the time we are running the roads to activities.

Before, I head off I have to leave you with this cute story of Kevin and Babe Ruth. Last night we were watching the weather channel (which is Daniel's favorite channel since his ball playing days - seeing if the game would be rained out or not) and they showed Wrigley Field in Chicago. Kevin yells out, "That's Chicago! Is Babe Ruth OK?" The boy is already brainwashed with baseball! Then we had to explain that Babe Ruth had died a long time ago. He was not too pleased with that news.
